NES for Apache ActiveMQ 5.16.x Setup

Installation and configuration guide for NES for Apache ActiveMQ 5.16.x

Setup Instructions

Configure Registry

Create or update your registry configuration:

Maven (~/.m2/settings.xml)
Gradle (~/.gradle/gradle.properties)
<settings>
  <servers>
    <server>
      <id>herodevs-nes-registry</id>
      <username>any_text_here_not_used</username>
      <password>YOUR_NES_ACCESS_TOKEN</password>
    </server>
  </servers>
</settings>

Update Build Configuration

Add the NES repository and dependencies to your build configuration:

Maven (pom.xml)
Gradle
<!-- Update the ActiveMQ dependency versions. Spring Boot users can instead set the activemq.version property, which applies the NES version to every managed ActiveMQ artifact at once -->
<dependencies>
  <!-- connecting to a broker -->
  <dependency>
    <groupId>org.apache.activemq</groupId>
    <artifactId>activemq-client</artifactId>
    <version>5.16.8-activemq-5.16.9</version><!-- Updated Version -->
  </dependency>
  <!-- embedding a broker -->
  <dependency>
    <groupId>org.apache.activemq</groupId>
    <artifactId>activemq-broker</artifactId>
    <version>5.16.8-activemq-5.16.9</version><!-- Updated Version -->
  </dependency>
  <!-- embedding a broker with KahaDB persistence -->
  <dependency>
    <groupId>org.apache.activemq</groupId>
    <artifactId>activemq-kahadb-store</artifactId>
    <version>5.16.8-activemq-5.16.9</version><!-- Updated Version -->
  </dependency>
  <!-- configuring a broker with Spring XML -->
  <dependency>
    <groupId>org.apache.activemq</groupId>
    <artifactId>activemq-spring</artifactId>
    <version>5.16.8-activemq-5.16.9</version><!-- Updated Version -->
  </dependency>
  ...
</dependencies>

<!-- Add NES repository -->
<repositories>
  <repository>
    <id>herodevs-nes-registry</id>
    <url>https://registry.nes.herodevs.com/maven</url>
  </repository>
</repositories>

Build

In order to remove potential obstacles before building your project, make sure the following domains are whitelisted by your firewall/networking team:

  • registry.nes.herodevs.com
  • assets.nes.herodevs.com

This will ensure that your network/firewall allows connection to our registry.

Run your build tool:

Maven
Gradle
mvn clean package

Spring Boot Applications

Spring Boot 2.7 manages every ActiveMQ artifact through a single activemq.version property. Setting that property applies the NES version across all of them at once, so no individual dependency declarations need to change:

<properties>
  <activemq.version>5.16.8-activemq-5.16.9</activemq.version>
</properties>

Because the groupId and artifactId of each artifact are unchanged from upstream, this is a drop-in replacement. Transitive resolution and dependency management behave exactly as before.

Verification

To verify your installation, check that:

  1. Dependencies are downloaded successfully
  2. No version conflicts are reported in your build
  3. Your application starts and connects to the broker without errors
